Hi everyone and thanks for popping into StressLessTherapist.com where it’s the small corner of the internet that is focused on helping mental health professionals build a life of freedom via business ownership, most likely private practice, so they can live a life that’s centered around their values.
My name is Alex Theordor, I am a business coach with a background in therapy. I’m also a private practice owner and I have a passion for content marketing, and I have used it to build my business and beyond. It’s something that I want to help other people with, so I pop on here every now and then to give some tips and recommendations on what I hope can help start your private practice, as well as different ways to enhance that experience through diversifying your income,
finding your ideal population that you love to work with, and one of the questions that I had come up today was how do you diversify your income and protect your license? This is such a big and important one because I think it’s one of the main reasons why people are afraid to do something outside of that one-to-one work, and you absolutely can and you should.
The reason why I say you should is because it’s a great way to protect that income that is coming in and making sure that you’re having a consistent revenue source. One of the ways that I diversify my income is, I mean, you’re looking at it, it’s business coaching and helping other therapists build their entrepreneurial journey. One of the most important ways of doing that to protect my license is, I keep everything separate.
I have a separate business account with separate malpractice insurance, separate banking, separate website, every separate email, everything is separate from my clinical practice as well as my non-clinical coaching business. I also make sure that I work with different populations.
Clearly, my business coaching is centered around therapists helping them build a private practice, whereas my private practice where I do one-on-one therapy is looking much more closely at the medical population. So those are just two kind of quick ideas in how to protect your clinical license, keep it separate, right?
That goes from everything from the population that you’re working with as well as your clinical license, your website, your bank accounts, your business name, right? Anything that you do, you should kind of have duplicates of. This is the best way and the easiest way to protect yourself. All right, that’s all for today.
